Lakewood Church Central Campus, located in Houston, Texas at the former Compaq Center, is one of America’s largest congregations and holds an average of 45,000 people per week. Called Megachurch, the church measures 606,000 square feet. The 16,800-seat building hosts four English-language services and two Spanish-language services weekly.
Joel Osteen, Victoria Osteen, and Danilo Montero serve as the primary preachers during weekend services. On Wednesday nights, associate pastors Paul Osteen, Lisa Osteen Comes, Nick Nilson, and Craig Johnson preach, or guest speakers are invited to speak.
Tours are available on Saturdays at 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM, as well as Sundays at 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM. On Wednesdays, you can take a tour at 9:00 PM. Joel Osteen is the pastor of Lakewood Church, which started out as Lakewood Baptist Church but today is nondenominational.
The Lakewood Church Central Campus used to be a mixed-use sports arena called the Compaq Center. Led by Pastor Joel Osteen, the church purchased the Compaq Center in 1999 and added a five-story building that includes a 27,000 sq. ft auditorium, moved to its current venue in 2003, and held its first service there on January 16th of that year. The church has a total indoor space of 606,000 square feet. It is called Megachurch because of its size. It’s also one of the biggest churches in America: Its auditorium seats 16,800 people!
